Calvert County is seeking a forward-thinking Deputy Director of Budget to lead the County’s operating and capital budget development, oversight, and long-term financial planning. This high-impact leadership role requires deep knowledge of Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) best practices, guidelines, and standards for budget administration, management, and reporting. Key Responsibilities
Training And/or Education
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business management, economics, or related field.
Experience
Five years of high-level, professional budgetary and/or accounting experience, including two years of considerable experience managing staff daily operations, customer service, and policy development and implementation.
Workday Financials and Workday Adaptive Planning experience is strongly preferred.
Licenses Or Certificates
Certified Public Financial Officer (CPFO), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), Certified Budgeting Professional (CBP), or relevant certification is preferred.
Workday Adaptive Planning Certification is strongly preferred.
Special Requirements
Subject to background investigation.

- Direct the preparation, analysis, and monitoring of the County’s operating and capital budgets.
- Lead and develop the budget team; manage daily operations and long-term planning.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Prepare revenue forecasts, financial models, and fund balance analyses.
- Present financial information to County leadership, Commissioners, and external agencies.
- Collaborate with internal departments and state agencies to align fiscal strategies.
- Drive process improvements and leverage data and technology to enhance transparency and efficiency.
- Support long-term financial planning and policy development.
- Serve as acting Director in their absence.
Training And/or Education
