The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget (Committee) is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization devoted to educating policymakers, the media and citizens about the fiscal challenges facing the country, as well as the possible solutions. The Committee is made up of some of the nation's leading budget experts including many of the past Chairmen and Directors of the Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, and the Government Accountability Office.

The Committee is seeking a driven and proactive Engagement and Coalitions Director. This role will be responsible for building, managing, and engaging the Committee’s diverse stakeholder communities in Washington and across the country. The position will also support the Committee’s public engagement campaigns and work to build strategic partnerships with external organizations and groups.

The ideal candidate will possess exceptional project management, organizational, and communication skills—both written and verbal—and have a proven track record in issue advocacy, particularly in engaging and collaborating with multiple stakeholders. The Engagement and Coalitions Director will work with the Committee’s policy and legislative teams and report to the Senior Vice President and Chief of Staff.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategy for recruiting, communicating with, and activating outside stakeholders to support organization’s objectives
  • Engage and build multiple groups and coalitions of civic, business, thought, and political leaders, former elected officials, and activists inside and outside of Washington to support the Committee in its bipartisan work on such topics as budget policy, tax policy, healthcare policy, long-term investments, economic growth, and addressing polarization
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with key outside stakeholders
  • Convene, organize, and facilitate coalition and other stakeholder/partner meetings
  • Proactively identify and address the needs of coalition partners involved in advocacy and program implementation and align engagement approaches accordingly
  • Exercise judgment to prioritize opportunities, prepare talking points, speeches, presentations, and other supporting material as needed
  • Support the chief of staff and deputy chief of staff in all engagement-related matters

Qualifications:

  • A self-starter who is able to develop and enact multiple creative coalition initiatives
  • A team player who is able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • - able to establish and implement systems and identify resources to ensure successful completion of projects
  • Strong communications skills (written & oral), extremely polished and professional demeanor, and excellent interpersonal skills who can act as one of the faces of the organization
  • Demonstrated organizing experience, Capitol Hill or statewide advocacy, electoral, and/or ballot initiative experience is a plus
  • Innovative thinker, with a track record for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output
  • 10 years of relevant professional experience
  • Passion for the Committee and its mission
  • A bachelor’s degree required

Salary: $125,000 to $160,000 with generous benefits package including health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance; 403(b) contribution; and paid time off.
