Overview
This person will tutor students both individually and in small groups and assist students with supplemental learning materials, act as resource person for other tutors, and act as contact person between the Tutoring Services and appropriate faculty members.Qualifications
EDUCATION
- Bachelor's Degree in appropriate to subject area being tutored. Required
- Graduate credits in Learning Disabilities, Basic Skill Development, or related discipline. Preferred
EXPERIENCE
- Teaching or tutoring experience. Preferred
- Experience with academically disadvantaged students. Preferred
ABILITIES AND SKILLS
- Ability to tutor in subject area for which hired. Required
- Aptitude to acquire skills in related academic area. Required
- Effective oral and written communication skills. Required
- Ability with or aptitude to learn the use of assistive technology devices/adaptive devices. Preferred
- Functional ability with or aptitude to learn microcomputer functions and software tools necessary to functions in a face-to-face and remote tutoring environment. Preferred
- Ability to work independently. Preferred
Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group tutoring for students.
- Assist students with course materials by reviewing and clarifying course requirements.
- Develop and/or update supplemental learning materials in areas related to academic expertise.
- Act as a contact person with appropriate faculty regarding student needs.
- Support the Tutoring and Writing Center as needed.
- Schedule and provide individual tutoring as reserved through the appointment request system.
- Develop working knowledge of video conferencing software tools and related educational software and materials needed to provide effective online tutoring services.
- Maintain complete and accurate Tutoring Services utilization records.
- Monitor tutoring areas in the absence of the Manager of Tutoring.
- Identify academic problems as they surface and consult with Manager, Hudock Center staff, or faculty, for resolution of the problem.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist the Manager with tutor orientations and training.
- Assist Manager with promoting the availability of tutorial services to students and faculty.
- Assist Manager with data collection for reports and evaluations.
