Classroom Math Facilitator (Student)

Overview

This individual will serve as a math facilitator in MTH 005 classrooms, providing personalized support to students both one-on-one and in small groups. They will assist students with supplemental learning materials and exam preparation sessions. They will offer tips and strategies to enhance the learning process, ultimately guiding students to become successful, independent learners.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

• Current Penn College Student. Required
• 3.0 cumulative G.P.A./A's and B's in appropriate courses. Required
• Completion of MTH 181 or higher. Required
• Written or verbal recommendation(s) from instructor(s) of appropriate course(s). Preferred

ABILITIES AND SKILLS

• High proficiency in math content area(s) and ability to explain concepts necessary to support specific student needs. Required
• Ability to facilitate learning in math. Required
• Effective oral and written communication skills. Required
• Ability to work independently. Required

Responsibilities

• Attend assigned MTH005 classes, participate in classroom learning activities, and follow the direction of the classroom instructor to engage and support students in the classroom.
• Assist students in an in-person environment both individually and in small groups.
• Act as resource in subject specific study strategies to support student's success.
• Assist students with supplemental learning materials and exam preparation sessions.
• Create and maintain a welcoming, safe, and nonjudgmental learning environment.
• Model positive study habits and be encouraging to students.
• Help students understand concepts, working through problems, and facilitating discussions.
• Regularly communicate with Title III Grant Supervisor, Coordinators, and/or reporting faculty members regarding any changes, needs, or opportunities within the department.
