TITLE:  STUDENT ASSISTANCE COORDINATOR

            GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP CAMPUS

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

     1. Valid New Jersey Student Assistance Coordinator and/or Substance Awareness Coordinator Certificate.
     2. Such additional qualifications as the Board may deem appropriate.
     3. Training in the prevention of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD) abuse.
     4. Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
     5. Meets the health qualifications required of all personnel.
     6. Meets the NJ residency requirements or willingness to relocate to NJ within 365 days of employment.
     7. Must follow the guidelines of the Camden County Technical Schools’ Nepotism Policy, File Code: 0142.1.

 

Salary is based on education, experience and/or military service according to the Board of Education of the Camden County Technical Schools and the Federation of Educational Services Professional Agreement Salary Guide - $58,000-$91,799.  This is a full-time, 10-month position.

Interviews are at the discretion of the superintendent and/or designee and based on qualifications for the position.

POSITION GOALS: The substance awareness coordinator’s responsibility is to provide intervention

                  and/or referral services to students and parents. Specific duties and responsibilities are

                  listed below.


REPORTS TO:    Supervisor assigned per the CCTS’ Organizational Chart


PERFORMANCE
RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

    1. Develop a referral procedure for students who are demonstrating symptoms of substance abuse.
    2. Develop intervention services for early identification of students who are at-risk for substance abuse.
    3. Develop procedures for anti-bullying.
    4. Coordinate a referral system with local, county, state, and other services, providers, and agencies.

    5. Coordinate with other resources available within the school district (child study team, guidance personnel,

        school nurses, etc.)
     6. Assess students’ drug/alcohol involvement; make appropriate referrals to treatment facilities when                      appropriate.
    7. Assess students’ character and values in dealing with anti-bullying.
    8. Work in cooperation with treatment facilities, counselors, parents/legal guardians, students and all school            personnel in developing and monitoring a student’s aftercare plan.
    9. Provide short-term individual or group counseling for students with bullying concerns or others concerns.
  10. Assess Harassment-Intimidation-Bullying (HIB) Policies annually to make recommendation(s) for revisions.
  11. Collect and analyze the data regarding substance use of students, the effectiveness of the                                        programs/services of the district and the need for new programs or modifications to existing programs.
  12. Provide individual or group counseling for students who have ineffective social skills or incapacitating

        fears and anxieties.
  13. Facilitate conferences with parents/legal guardians to review, discuss and/or implement appropriate

        steps and stages of intervention, providing options for further actions to be taken.

  14. Assist in the design, implementation and coordination of staff development programs on substance                        awareness and issues related to HIB.
  15.  Provide in-service training for all teachers and staff regarding HIB prevention.
  16. Serve as a resource to district personnel and serve on safety committees.
  17. Maintain current professional knowledge through reading, attendance at conferences and/or membership in

        professional organizations.
  18. Coordinate and implement parent/legal guardian education programs related to substance awareness.
  19. Assist the administration in assessing HIB concerns.
  20. Coordinate and implement parent education programs related to HIB.
  21. Develop community awareness through active participation as school liaison to community groups

        and organizations.
  22. Follow district procedure with individual students who are in a crisis situation.
  23. Serve as the district liaison to meetings concerning HIB strategies and policies.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor per the CCTS’ Organizational Chart/or designee.
