At the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the causes of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia, Pennington Biomedical Research Center is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The Center includes Basic Science, Clinical Research, and Population and Public Health, enabling both focused research and translational science. Research at Pennington Biomedical is supported broadly by multiple NIH Research Centers, and includes approximately 65 faculty and 20 postdoctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories and 13 highly specialized core service facilities. Job Description:
Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world-renowned academic research institute of Louisiana State University, is seeking a Research Specialist in Population and Public Health working directly with the Greaux Healthy Program.
Greaux Healthy is a new prevention and treatment initiative aimed at combatting childhood obesity by leveraging state funding to attract outside grants and create an integrated network of evidence–based obesity treatment and prevention programs for children.
The Research Specialist will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of clinical and community studies and trials. The Research Specialist will work with a team of specialists who are responsible for the development of study documents (protocols, manuals of procedures, Institutional Review Board materials, etc.), participant screening, recruitment, assessment and retention of participants in studies, safety monitoring, data monitoring, and overall study conduct.
Job Responsibilities
B.S. in a health science field
Highly motivated and organized
Excellent communication, writing, and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree

Job Responsibilities
- Attending all scheduled research meetings as well as frequent teleconferences and/or webinars.
- Working with the project manager, data manager and study investigators to ensure that all study goals and aims are achieved in a timely manner.
- Interfacing with electronic data capture systems.
- Generating reports that may include lab safety reports, recruitment reports, and progress reports for study sponsors.
- Generating study documents related to the design and conduct of the study.
- Tracking participants’ study visit attendance in order to process participant compensation.
- Keeping track of study inventory, inventory requests, and inventory fulfillment.
- Creating and updating manuals of procedures.
- Assisting study staff in efforts to retain participants using various techniques, including e-mail, telephone, birthday cards, holiday cards, and retention letters.
- Occasional travel to off-campus study sites.
