Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a research facility of the Louisiana State University System, is seeking to hire a Research Specialist/Assessment Team Technician in the Lafayette area. The candidate will be responsible for assisting in the implementation of a statewide clinical study in pregnant and postpartum women in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program. The Research Specialist/Assessment Team Technicians will work within a team of specialists to recruit and screen study participants, schedule study assessment visits, perform study measurements, enter study data, and attend team meetings. Travel is required among participating clinics in the study areas. The position will also require occasional travel to Pennington Biomedical Research Center in Baton Rouge. Daily responsibilities include maintaining the prospective participant referral list and call assignments, maintaining the weekly WIC clinic schedule, contacting study participants, ascertainment of informed consent, collection of assessment data such as anthropometrics, dietary recalls, activity monitoring, questionnaires, data entry, and communication with the project manager and other team members to ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines and integrity of the study protocol.

- Maintain prospective participant referral list from WIC and assign prospective participant calls across the study team
- Communicate with prospective participants to explain study information and determine participant study eligibility
- Conduct clinical trial study visits from preparation, data collection, chart processing, and data entry and cleaning
- Perform clinical research data collection activities including but not limited to: informed consenting, anthropometrics and body composition measurements, diet and activity assessments, and administering questionnaires
- Perform research activities outside of data collection including but not limited to: scheduling appointments, making reminder calls, paperwork processing, data entry, and resolving data queries
- Work with specialized research populations including pregnant and postpartum women and their young children
- Comply with safety and good clinical practice guidelines and follow research study protocols
- Communicate with the project manager and other team members and participate in team meetings
- Interact and maintain professionalism in communicating with WIC staff
- Interact and maintain professionalism and flexibility in communicating with study research participants
- Perform clerical duties such as typing, filing, and conducting phone calls
- Bachelors of Science in nutrition, kinesiology, biology, psychology, or similar health related field required.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Experience performing clinical research assessments in human subjects such as informed consent, anthropometric measures, and source documentation data capture.
- Excellent organization and writing skills.
- Detail oriented, multitasking abilities, proficient in Microsoft Office applications, and able to learn and use new computer programs quickly and effectively.
- Work typically performed within a typical clinic setting or at-home business office.
- Community-based studies require significant off-site presence. Primary location is split between at-home business office and partnering WIC clinics.
- Includes routine travel to WIC clinics within approximately 90 minutes of your residence and occasional travel to WIC clinics approximately 3 hours of your residence.
- Hours of work may vary depending upon the demands of the study and the needs of the institution.
