HVAC Technician
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to perform service, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and retrofit work on a wide range of commercial and industrial HVAC systems. This role requires strong technical expertise, customer-facing professionalism, and the ability to independently diagnose and resolve equipment issues in the field.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for customers while maintaining a professional and positive relationship.
- Perform preventative maintenance, inspections, diagnostics, repairs, and system modifications on HVAC equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and controls-related issues using technical documentation, blueprints, and engineering specifications.
- Conduct site surveys and evaluate equipment performance and operating conditions.
- Install, replace, and repair HVAC components and systems as required.
- Prepare for service visits by reviewing project requirements, gathering materials, and coordinating work activities.
- Identify equipment deficiencies and recommend corrective actions to customers or project stakeholders.
- Order and manage parts required for repairs and maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate service records, daily reports, labor hours, and job documentation.
- Provide customer training and operational guidance following equipment installation or repairs.
- Deliver technical support and recommendations related to HVAC system operation and performance.
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in compliance with company policies and industry standards.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools, equipment, service manuals, and technical documentation.
- Track and document labor, materials, subcontractor costs, and other project-related expenses.
- Operate company-owned vehicles and equipment safely and responsibly.
- Stay current on HVAC technologies, products, installation methods, and service procedures.
- Read and interpret construction drawings, equipment specifications, and engineering documents.
- Participate in overtime, after-hours, weekend, and on-call work as needed.
- Travel to customer locations regularly, including occasional overnight travel.
Qualifications
- 3 years of commercial or industrial HVAC service experience.
- Associate degree, technical school certificate, or equivalent training in HVAC, Mechanical Systems, Refrigeration, or a related field preferred.
- Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills across HVAC equipment and controls systems.
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- EPA Certification required.
- Virginia HVAC Journeyman License preferred.
- Additional certifications such as Boiler Operator, Gas Fitter/Installer, or related trade licenses are a plus.
- Ability to obtain or maintain union membership if required by project or employment agreements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, and work in mechanical spaces for extended periods.
- Frequent use of hands and arms to operate tools and equipment.
- Ability to regularly lift up to 10 pounds and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to occasionally lift or move 75 pounds with assistance.
- Must possess close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
