Job Title: Wire EDM Operator
Job Summary:
The Wire EDM Operator is responsible for setting up, programming, and operating Wire (EDM) equipment to manufacture precision components. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, blueprint reading, and quality control to ensure parts meet exact specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
· Set up and operate Wire EDM machines to produce precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications
· Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD files
· Program and edit CNC programs for Wire EDM operations (using CAM software where applicable)
· Select appropriate materials, wire types, and machine settings for each job
· Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to maintain accuracy and efficiency
· Inspect finished parts using measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges
· Perform routine maintenance on EDM equipment and troubleshoot issues as they arise
· Maintain a clean and organized work area in compliance with safety standards
· Document production data, including job progress and quality checks
· Collaborate with engineers, machinists, and quality teams to improve processes
Qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent (technical certification preferred)
· 5 years of experience operating Wire EDM machines (or equivalent machining experience)
· Proficiency in reading blueprints
· Experience with CNC programming and/or CAM software is preferred
· Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Ability to operate other equipment as necessary a plus
Skills & Competencies:
· Knowledge of EDM machining principles and tooling
· Familiarity with precision measurement instruments
· Basic computer skills for programming and documentation
· Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability
· Time management and organizational skills
Working Conditions:
· Manufacturing or machine shop environment
· Prolonged periods of standing and operating machinery
· May be required to lift up to 50 lbs
· Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) required
Preferred Qualifications:
· Certification in CNC machining or EDM operation
· Experience with specific EDM brands (e.g., Fanuc, Mitsubishi, Sodick)
· Knowledge of lean manufacturing or continuous improvement practices
