Penn State Health – Milton S. Hershey Medical Center (HMC) is seeking a compassionate, energetic, patient-focused Surgical Technologist to join our collaborative team of professionals!
JOB SUMMARY:
The Surgical Technologist is responsible for providing a sterile patient care environment for setting up instrumentation for operating room surgical procedures, for anticipating the needs of the surgical team by providing instruments and supplies, and for providing surgical assistance during operating room procedures. HMC currently has 548 licensed beds and had nearly 75,000 Emergency Department visits while performing over 32,000 surgical cases last year. Our medical center has 35 operating and procedure rooms prepared to provide surgical care to the community which means a superb breadth of experience for all of our Surgical Techs and room for career progression. This is a Teamster union position. **Work hours are 12-hour shifts, day/night rotations, 7a.m. to 7p.m. and 7p.m. to 7a.m., rotation every 10 weeks**
Depending on experience, the Surgical Tech will be enrolled in a 12 to 15 week training schedule. They will rotate through several services to ensure experience with each service line, such as general pediatrics, ENT/plastics, robotics, neurosurgery, vascular and thoracic, orthopedics, ophthalmology, GYN, and endo. The operating room has an educator dedicated to the program as well as each Surgical Tech having a preceptor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates Degree of Applied Science from a Surgical Technology program accredited by The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) in Surgical Technology required.
Certification as a Surgical Technologist through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or the National Center for Competency Training (NCCT) is required
Must complete a program from an accredited institution or complete a training program in the armed forces Must complete the necessary continuing education to keep their certification.
BLS/CPR required.
