J OB SUMMARY:
R esponsible for the analysis of medical records and assignment of accurate ICD9CM and/or ICD10CM/PCS diagnostic and procedural codes, as well as CPT-4 procedural codes, for all inpatient, short stay, and observation services to assure accurate hospital re-imbursement. Work with physicians, administrative and financial staff as required assuring valid code assignments and/or clarification for timely billing. Serve as a mentor/resource for less experienced staff and serve in a lead role in the absence of the Supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Either: (A) Associates degree in Health Information Technology or Nursing required or (B) Successful completion of a coding certificate program required.
3 years of coding experience in an acute care setting coding Inpatient, Observation, and/or Same Days required.
Certification as RHIT or CCS required.
Passing Score On a Pre-employment Skills Assessment Test Required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
Familiarity with medical record documentation conventions required
A working knowledge of computers is required.
Extensive skill level of office software required.
Ability to analyze data and communicate effectively is required.
