JOB SUMMARY:
The Sign Language Interpreter p rovides spoken language, American Sign Language (ASL), and tactile interpretation for patients, medical providers, and staff in order to assist the deaf and hard of hearing patients to obtain access to medical care.
M INIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
G raduated from an Interpreter Education Program (IEP) with an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education Required
O ne year of ASL interpreting experience in a specialty/hospital medical setting; or Two years of ASL interpreting experience in other types of medical setting Required.
K nowledge of Medical Terminology Required.
C ertification from one of the following is Require
R egistry of Interpreters for the Deaf, Inc (RID) - Certificate of Interpretation (CI) or Certificate of Transliteration (CT) or Equivalent grandfathered level
N ational Association of the Deaf (NAD) - Level IV or
N ational Interpreter Certification (NIC) - Advanced or Master level
