What are the responsibilities and job description for the Phlebotomist position at Penn Highlands Healthcare?
AS A PHLEBOTOMIST, you'll be under direct supervision, receive or visit patients to perform venipuncture, capillary blood collection, culture and/or urine specimen collection as ordered by physician. Gives prompt, courteous and considerate attention to patients. Registers patients and requisitions tests through the computer system. Prepares specimens and requisitions for reference laboratories. Unpacks laboratory supply orders and puts supplies away. Inventories and stocks supplies. Cleans laboratory glassware. Discards laboratory specimens.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduate or equivalent required.
- Prior experience working in the medical setting
- Must have taken a certified phlebotomy course- must attain ASCP certification within 2 years of being hired to role (or completion of a practice nursing program).
- Ability to work independently.
- Computer skills
Please note: If you hold a certificate that does not expire-you must be a member with either ASCP or AMT. If you are on a maintenance program with an expiration - you are not required to be a member but must maintain your certification.
