Position Summary
The Extrusion Manager is a key member of the Plant Management Team, responsible for leading the extrusion department to safely produce high-quality extrusions at the lowest cost. This role oversees production performance, staffing, quality, safety, and operational efficiency while fostering a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, and customer focus.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Champion a zero-injury safety culture by actively engaging employees at all levels and collaborating with EHS to ensure compliance and safe work practices.
- Lead the extrusion operations team, including supervisors, die shop, production scheduling, and logistics, to meet or exceed KPIs in throughput, recovery, scrap reduction, and on-time delivery.
- Collaborate with sales, quality, and engineering teams to ensure customer satisfaction, address quality concerns, and meet product specifications.
- Develop, coach, and train department personnel, ensuring proper staffing, cross-training, and leadership development.
- Monitor and manage department manning, labor costs, production efficiency, and asset utilization to achieve financial and operational objectives.
- Review production data, quality results, and downtime causes to drive root cause problem solving and implement corrective actions.
- Partner with leadership to create strategic plans, capital asset requests, and continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity and profitability.
- Develop and maintain operational metrics to measure and drive performance improvement.
- Work closely with maintenance to ensure reliable press performance and minimal unplanned downtime.
- Promote cross-functional communication and collaboration to ensure smooth material flow and effective scheduling.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, manufacturing, or a related field preferred; High School Diploma/GED required.
- 7 years of extrusion operations leadership experience required; 10 years of multi-press extrusion preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership ability with a track record of developing high-performing teams.
- Strong knowledge of extrusion press and die practices, recovery optimization, and dimensional control.
- Experience with quench processes, grain structure control, and quality testing methods preferred.
- Solid understanding of Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
