We are seeking a Publicity Assistant to join the Random House Group publicity team, supporting media-driven fiction and nonfiction campaigns across the Ballantine Group imprints, including Ballantine, Bantam, Dell, and Delacorte. This role offers a hands-on introduction to trade book publishing in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is well suited to a motivated, detail-oriented candidate who actively engages with media, takes initiative, and is ready to contribute at a high level from day one.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the creation and execution of high-impact publicity campaigns for top titles across genres including commercial fiction, mystery/thriller/suspense, rom-com/romantasy, narrative nonfiction, and celebrity. Responsibilities include:
  • Assisting publicity staff on high-profile media campaigns for bestselling authors
  • Pitching media outlets and booksellers
  • Communicating with media, booksellers, in-house colleagues, authors, and agents
  • Writing pitch materials and researching media targets
  • Creating and managing author itineraries
  • Updating internal documents, databases, and systems
  • Coordinating mailings, publicity materials, and review copy requests
  • Organizing travel and hotel logistics for tours and special events
  • Processing invoices, maintaining campaign budgets, and assisting with data entry
  • Conducting online research to build and update media lists
  • Taking on additional assignments and projects as needed

  • Strong interest in book publishing, publicity and media relations, and books across genres
  • Deep familiarity with the media landscape across platforms, including digital, social, Substack/newsletters, and legacy outlets
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a deadline-driven, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Self-starter who takes initiative and is eager to learn and grow
  • Proficiency with social media, internet research, and Microsoft Office Suite


The salary for this position is $51,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.

This hybrid position has occasional in-office responsibilities, including but not limited to in-office meetings, author visits or events, and daily ad hoc administrative projects. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
