Job Summary:

The Junior Server Administrator installs, configures, maintains, and operates county servers and network equipment. Working with senior administrators, the role helps ensure the security, reliability, and optimal performance of the county's IT infrastructure. Responsibilities include daily administration and monitoring of server and network hardware and software.

Essential Functions:

  • Monitor server and network event/security logs and document incidents.
  • Assist with vulnerability assessments and remediation efforts.
  • Install, maintain, support, and troubleshoot county servers, network hardware, and related software.
  • Configure, document, and upgrade local networks and server systems using security best practices.
  • Respond to user support needs, track issues in help desk software, and coordinate with other technicians.
  • Stay current on emerging server and network technologies.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with staff, other departments, and vendors.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the ITS Director.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot most server and network hardware/software issues.
  • Skill in writing reports, business correspondence, and technical documentation.
  • Ability to clearly present information and respond to questions from officials, employees, and the public.
  • Ability to interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule-based instructions and adapt to new technologies.
  • Strong integrity with the ability to maintain confidentiality and follow consistent, productive work habits independently.
  • Effective communication and relationship-building skills; ability to train employees on basic hardware and software use.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to speak, read, and write clearly in English.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One to two years of related IT experience or relevant certifications/classes preferred.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Successful completion of NCIC, Washington State Patrol, and driving record background checks.
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident.
  • Minimum age of 18.

Working Environment:

Work is primarily in an office setting with extended periods of sitting and frequent use of hands for handling equipment. Occasional physical activities include standing, walking, climbing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and lifting up to 100 pounds. The role requires good vision, hearing, listening skills, and regular attendance. Work is performed onsite during regular hours, with telecommuting only allowed if approved by the ITS Director.
