Role Description The Veterinary Technician is a full-time, on-site role based at Pella Pets Veterinary Clinic in Pella, IA. This role involves assisting veterinarians during exams, procedures, and surgeries, including preparing treatment areas, handling animals safely, and monitoring patient status. Day-to-day responsibilities include performing basic laboratory tests, administering medications and treatments as directed, updating medical records, and ensuring clean, organized, and well-stocked clinical areas. The Veterinary Technician also supports client education by explaining discharge instructions, preventive care, and home care recommendations. This position requires close collaboration with veterinarians and support staff to deliver consistent, high-quality care to patients and professional service to clients.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in Animal Care and Pet Care, including safe handling, restraint, and monitoring of companion animals.
- Proficiency in Veterinary Technology, such as basic lab work, medication administration, and assisting with diagnostics and procedures.
- Experience or training in Anesthesiology support, including patient preparation, monitoring under supervision, and post-anesthesia care.
- Ability to provide clear, compassionate Client Education regarding treatment plans, preventive care, and at-home pet management.
- Completion of an accredited veterinary technology program or equivalent experience; credentialing (RVT/LVT/CVT) preferred where applicable but not required.
- Strong attention to detail, time management, and organizational skills in a clinical setting.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Comfort with standing for extended periods and safely lifting or restraining animals as required.
- Previous experience in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital is highly beneficial.
