Summary

Performs a variety of duties to Lead and ensure the ongoing shipping operations for the plant.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Perform physical and clerical tasks associated with shipment of supplies and finished products to ensure departmental success.
  • Coordinate both international and domestic shipments by working with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and transport carriers to obtain quotes, schedule pickups, and ensure cost-effective and timely delivery.
  • Lead and participate in daily shipping operations, including physical and clerical tasks to ensure timely and accurate shipment of supplies and finished goods.
  • Verify shipment records and processes using Warehouse Management Systems (SAP); ensure shipments are picked, packaged, staged, stored, and loaded per customer requirements.
  • Prepare and verify all required shipping documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and export declarations (EEI filings), ensuring compliance with international trade laws and Incoterms.
  • Monitor customs clearance procedures and ensure adherence to import/export regulations, restricted goods policies, and applicable duty/tax requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with ITAR, EAR, and other export control laws and company-specific policies.
  • Act as the point of contact for internal departments, international customers, and vendors regarding shipping documentation and status updates.
  • Oversee and support shipping team members; monitor performance, address productivity issues, and train new employees in the best practices and safety procedures.
  • Ensure team compliance with all quality, safety, and housekeeping standards; correct or escalate any issues to management.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and equipment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the success of the shipping department.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; experience in similar role may substitute for education.
  • Three to five years of experience in shipping (Domestic and International)
  • Experience providing supervision or direction to others in a work setting.
  • Experience with forklift operation.
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems such as SAP.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • Must have the ability to complete assignments within the timeframe specified by the Manager.
  • Must be flexible regarding working hours and overtime. Must be able to work overtime on evenings and weekends, with or without advanced notice.
  • Must be able to operate in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be constantly required to execute standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. stand, walk, sit, use hands/fingers).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be frequently required to execute non-standard physical activities within the facility areas (i.e. climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch).
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • This position requires repetitive hand/wrist activities.
