Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)– School-Based Opportunity Tacoma, WA | 2026–2027 School Year

Pediatric Developmental Services (PDS) is seeking a passionate Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) to work with a school district in the Tacoma area for the 2026–2027 school year. This full-time, onsite position offers a structured schedule, a collaborative team environment, and the opportunity to help students build essential life and academic skills.

About the Role

As a school-based LPC, you will help students develop the functional skills needed to succeed in the classroom and daily activities. You'll work with a diverse caseload, supporting fine motor development, sensory processing, and independence with school-related tasks.

Schedule & Setting

  • Monday–Friday school hours

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Active state licensure as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
  • School-based experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of special education processes, including IEPs and 504 Plans, preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary educational team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individual and group counseling services to students with social, emotional, behavioral, and mental health needs.
  • Conduct assessments and develop treatment plans based on student needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, school psychologists, social workers, and related service providers to support student success.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, IEP meetings, 504 meetings, and crisis intervention planning as needed.
  • Provide consultation and training to school staff regarding behavioral and mental health strategies.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, progress notes, and service logs in compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
  • Support students with emotional regulation, coping skills, conflict resolution, and social skills development.
  • Respond to crisis situations and provide appropriate intervention and referrals.
  • Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress and support strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with FERPA, HIPAA (as applicable), and ethical standards of practice.
