*Job Summary*
We are seeking a motivated Medical Collections Billing Specialist to join our team. The Medical Collections Billing Specialist will be responsible for managing and collecting payments on past-due medical accounts. This position involves communicating and working closely with patients, healthcare providers, insurance companies and third party agencies to ensure account balances are resolved. The ideal candidate will have experience in medical billing and collections, strong negotiation skills and a compassionate approach to patient financial interactions. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm.
*Responsibilities*
- Monitor and review delinquent patient accounts for accuracy.
- Contact patients regarding overdue balances via phone, email and mail.
- Negotiate payment plans and ensure timely payments are collected.
- Collect and process payments and accurately update account records.
- Enter patient miscellaneous charges and payments into the system.
- Coordinate with insurance companies to resolve unpaid claims and discrepancies.
- Escalate unresolved accounts to management or third-party agencies as needed.
- Investigate and resolve patient billing disputes or concerns.
- Collaborate with the medical office staff to resolve billing issues.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
- Provide excellent customer service and clear communication regarding account status and payment options.
- Maintain organized and updated medical records.
*Qualifications*
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Previous 2 years experience in medical billing or collections preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of medical billing codes, Explanation of Benefits (EOB) statements and insurance processes.
- Must have working knowledge of insurance websites.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
- Familiarity with medical billing software systems.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, problem solving and analytical skills required.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in data entry.
