PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Senior Category Manager is responsible for the strategic and proactive management of assigned spend categories and regions. This role goes beyond transactional buying, driving value through supplier partnerships, category strategies, and alignment with clinical, operational, and financial goals across Pediatric Associates Family of Companies (PAFC).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1) Develop and execute long-term category strategies aligned with organizational objectives, cost management goals, and patient care standards.
2) Own assigned spend categories (e.g., medical supplies, pharmaceuticals, clinical equipment, facilities, purchased services, regions) and ensure category roadmaps are in place.
3) Conduct spend analysis and market intelligence to identify cost-saving opportunities, utilization issues, and supplier risks.
4) Benchmark categories against industry best practices and peer health systems.
5) Lead supplier negotiations beyond pricing to include service levels, performance guarantees, and value-add programs.
6) Establish multi-year supplier partnerships that align with organizational goals and mitigate risk.
7) Oversee supplier performance scorecards and corrective action plans.
8) Partner with regional operations, clinical leadership, and finance to align category initiatives with frontline needs.
9) Serve as category advisor to stakeholders across assigned regions, proactively engaging them before contract renewals or product conversions.
10) Anticipate market shifts (e.g., drug shortages, supply disruptions) and implement contingency plans.
11) Proactively manage upcoming renewals, contract expirations, and sourcing events.
12) Evaluate new technologies, vendors, and alternatives for long-term value.
13) Drive total cost of ownership (TCO) reduction, not just unit cost savings.
14) Implement standardization initiatives across regions to reduce variability, improve quality, and lower costs.
15) Measure and report financial, clinical, and operational impacts of sourcing decisions.
16) Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, DEA, Joint Commission) and organizational procurement policies.
17) Provide transparency to leadership on sourcing decisions and category performance metrics.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field required.
EXPERIENCE:
- 7 years of progressive procurement, or category management experience, preferably within healthcare required.
- Experience managing large spend categories, supplier negotiations, and category strategies across multi-site organizations required.
- A minimum of 10 years of professional experience required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strategic Procurement & Category Expertise – Demonstrated ability to develop and execute long-term category strategies, including spend analysis, supplier segmentation, and standardization initiatives in healthcare.
- Analytical & Data-Driven Decision-Making – Skilled in spend analytics, forecasting, and supplier performance measurement, with the ability to translate data into actionable strategies
- Cross-Functional Leadership & Collaboration – Ability to influence and partner with clinical, operational, and financial stakeholders across multiple regions to drive alignment and adoption of category strategies
