Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and energetic Recreation Aide to enhance the quality of life for residents in our long-term care setting. The Recreation Aide will work closely with residents, staff, and families to develop and implement engaging programs tailored to diverse needs, including memory care and dementia support.
Duties
- Plan, organize, and facilitate a variety of recreational activities that promote socialization, physical health, and emotional well-being for residents.
- Assist in the development of activity schedules that accommodate individual preferences, cognitive abilities, and health conditions.
- Support residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as mobility, grooming, and other personal care tasks when necessary.
- Collaborate with nursing staff and caregivers to ensure activities align with residents’ care plans, including Alzheimer’s care and memory support programs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of resident participation and progress in recreational therapy programs.
- Foster an inclusive environment by working with individuals with disabilities or special needs to ensure they feel engaged and valued.
- Coordinate special events, outings, or community engagement initiatives that enrich residents’ lives outside the facility.
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and team members to promote understanding of activity benefits and address individual needs.
Experience
- Prior experience working in assisted living facilities or nursing homes is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated knowledge of recreational therapy techniques tailored for seniors, including dementia and Alzheimer’s care.
- Experience in event planning or organizing community activities is preferred.
- Familiarity with caregiving responsibilities related to aging issues, long-term care environments, or home & community care settings.
- Strong communication skills coupled with the ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Background in working with individuals with disabilities or special needs enhances effectiveness in this role.
