Essential Functions
As a Pipefitter for our Civil West Division located in US- 36 and Sheridan Blvd, you will contribute to our team by:
- Does journey-level work without detailed supervision, working from blueprints and drawings on new work and from verbal assignments and sketches on other work.
- Installs, replaces, maintains and repairs steel, iron, alloy, copper, brass, hard rubber, plastic, and other types of pipe and tubing of various sizes, including fittings, valves, gauges, meters, control instruments and other appurtenances used in piping systems.
- Places and connects self-contained units such as pumps, compressors, and some types of tanks.
- Measures pipe for length and angle. Cuts, threads, reams, bends, joins, and caulks pipe using hand and power tools and equipment.
- Solders joints on copper tubing and pipe, makes bolted flange connections, fabricates and installs pipe hangers, supports and braces, cleans, adjusts, grinds, and packs valves, packs pumps, cleans pipelines, uses precision tools in setting pumps and other integral parts of pipe systems.
- Does rigging necessary in installing and moving pipe systems.
- Direct unskilled laborers or semiskilled workers
- A good knowledge of the methods, practices, tools, machines, equipment, and metals, alloys, and other materials used in joining fitting, cutting, bending and threading all types of pipe.
- A working knowledge of the effects of pressure, temperature, and other factors on pipe systems and of the methods and practices used in obtaining satisfactory performance under various conditions.
- The ability to set up and use rigging required to lift, move, and install piping, pumps, valves, and other integral parts of pipe systems.
- Knowledge of the construction, functions, and operating principles of valves and fittings used in industrial pipe systems.
- Working knowledge of the hazards and applicable safety precautions required.
- Ability to organize and prioritize work.
- Strength to perform average lifting of 35 pounds to 50 pounds, from the ground to waist level.
- Arm, hand, and finger dexterity with both hands involved in activities such as reaching, handling, and feeling—and with good eyesight.
- Extensive bending and squatting, on feet 8 hours per day
- Climbs up and down ladders, scaffolding, stairs
- Able to work in extreme temperatures, in confined spaces, high places, and in excavated areas.
- May work around chemicals, near grinding and torching and/or near cranes and heavy equipment.
- Work in close contact with other people.
