DEPARTMENT: Head Start
JOB TITLE: Early Childhood Aide
FLSA class: Non-Exempt/Part–Time
PAY SCALE: $15.00
REPORTS TO: Head Start Site Director
JOB PURPOSE: The Early Childhood Aide, under the supervision of the Head Teacher will assist the Early Childhood Teacher in a manner that contributes to the growth and development of the children enrolled in the center.
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:
1. Must be over 19 years of age
2. Must have worked with infants/toddlers
3. Must have a High School Diploma
4. Must meet DCFS requirements
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
1. Effective oral and written communication skills
2. Ability to work as a team member
3. Ability to make sound professional judgments
4. Knowledge of basic computer functions including word processing and the ability to enter developmental screening data
5. Must have and maintain a valid Illinois Driver’s license, reliable transportation and insurance coverage as required by the State of Illinois
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. The Early Childhood Aide will assist the Early Childhood Teacher in attending to and providing services to all children in the classroom, when transitioning to the playground or on field trips.
2. The Early Childhood Aide must assist the Early Childhood Teacher in planning and implementing extended-care activities as appropriate.
3. The Early Childhood Aide must assist in toileting and tooth brushing.
4. The Early Childhood Aide must provide coverage for staff breaks with supervisory staff coverage.
5. The Early Childhood Aide must help maintain positive discipline at all times.

6. The Early Childhood Aide must be cooperative with other staff, show a willingness to help when needed and to display professionalism at all times.
7. The Early Childhood Aide must enroll in Gateways to Opportunity and complete all required modules.
8. The Early Childhood Aide must attend all staff meetings promptly at the specified time and place.
9. The Early Childhood Aide must assist the EC Teacher to communicate effectively with parents in the daily classroom operations with confidence to assure the parents that they are needed and are useful.
10. The Early Childhood Aide will assist in cleaning and maintaining the classroom equipment and supplies with care.
11. The Early Childhood Aide must be willing to observe the rules and procedures of the agency providing assistance for the arrangement of the learning environment for the Head Start program.
12. The Early Childhood Aide must assist in facilitating breakfast, lunch, and snack and help children with cleanup. The Early Childhood Aide must have a calm demeanor and provide the children with a relaxed atmosphere and make it an enjoyable at all times.
13. The Early Childhood Aide will assist with lesson planning.
14. The Early Childhood Aide must observe all local, state and federal rules, which govern the operation of the Head Start program.
15. The Early Childhood Aide will perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Education/Disabilities Coordinator, Early Childhood Teacher or other appropriate staff members.
