VP of Operations – Mechanical
A well-established, growing mechanical contractor with a strong presence in commercial and public-sector work is seeking a senior leader to take ownership of operations and help drive the next phase of growth.
• Take full ownership of mechanical operations across all active work, including HVAC systems, piping, and retrofit/upgrade projects within institutional and public-sector environments (schools, municipal, infrastructure-related facilities)
• Lead day-to-day execution across multiple projects simultaneously — ensuring schedules, manpower, and field operations are aligned, while stepping in to troubleshoot complex mechanical/system issues as needed
• Act as the senior technical resource for the company — able to evaluate designs, identify constructability issues, resolve field conflicts, and guide teams through system-level challenges across HVAC and piping scopes
• Oversee and develop project managers, superintendents, and field staff — setting expectations, driving accountability, and building a consistent, high-performing operations team
• Work directly with ownership to shape operational strategy, staffing plans, and long-term growth of the mechanical division, including improving processes, systems, and execution standards
• Manage project performance at a high level — reviewing budgets, tracking costs, identifying risk, and ensuring projects are delivered profitably and efficiently
• Maintain strong working knowledge of union labor and agreements, including coordination with UA Local 274, managing manpower planning, productivity, and field coordination
• Play a supporting role in business development — leveraging industry relationships, assisting in pursuits, reviewing opportunities, and helping position the company to win additional work (not a pure sales role, but must be market-facing)
• Interface with owners, public agencies, engineers, and subcontractors to ensure clear communication, strong relationships, and successful project delivery
• In-person leadership role based in Morris Plains, NJ with oversight of projects across Northern NJ / NYC metro
