Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer Roles and Responsibilities
Mechanical Engineering Portion: Evaluate Mechanical Engineering plans and specifications to ensure progress, completion of assignments, and all project documentation is accurate/reliable. Provide design assistance to Mechanical engineers as needed to complete fast-paced deadlines while maintaining a quality design. Provide support during construction phases and be a quick thinker to solve potential issues and obstacles in the field.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design, analysis, and implementation of HVAC systems for various projects under the supervision of senior engineers.
- Develop detailed HVAC drawings, specifications, and schematics using CAD and BIM software.
- Assist with performing load calculations, energy analysis, duct and pipe sizing, and equipment selections to optimize system performance.
- Assist in ensuring compliance with industry standards, local building codes, and sustainability requirements.
- Develop the ability to collaborate with architects, contractors, owners, and other engineering disciplines to define project scope and integrate HVAC systems seamlessly.
- Assist in reviewing and approving project documentation including calculations, equipment schedules, construction drawings, RFI’s, and submittals.
- Attend site inspections with senior engineer to verify existing conditions and ensure installation compliance.
- Stay current with emerging HVAC technologies and industry trends to drive innovation and efficiency.
- Participate in project meetings and scheduling activities.
- Participate in technical report writing.
- Utilize the PBS Cockpit.
Job Qualifications and skills
Minimum qualifications:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative team environment.
- Ability to work well under pressure, multi-task, and engage with multi-discipline project teams in meeting client needs in a timely manner and within budget objectives.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
- Strong organizational skills, creativity, enthusiasm, and eagerness to learn.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and HVAC design software (EnergyPro, Carrier HAP, and IESVE or Trane Trace 700 if applicable).
Preferred qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or Associate Degree focused on HVAC Design/Installation.
- EIT or Professional Engineer License is a plus.
- LEED Certification, CEM, PMP, or CxA is a plus.
