TITLE: ATHLETIC DIRECTOR (PART-TIME)
JOB SUMMARY
The Payette High School Athletic Director provides leadership, direction, and supervision for the district's high school athletic programs while promoting educational excellence, student achievement, sportsmanship, and positive school culture. The Athletic Director is responsible for the administration, organization, and evaluation of all high school athletic programs and works collaboratively with the McCain Middle School Athletic Director to develop and maintain a unified district athletic program that prepares student-athletes for success from middle school through graduation.
The Athletic Director ensures compliance with district policies, Idaho High School Activities Association (IHSAA) regulations, and applicable federal and state laws while promoting equitable opportunities for student participation, coach development, and community engagement.

Required Qualifications
- Valid Idaho Administrator Certificate or the ability to obtain one.
- Successful experience in education, coaching, athletic administration, or related leadership.
- Demonstrated knowledge of interscholastic athletics, IHSAA rules, and athletic program administration.
- Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, staff, parents, officials, and community members.
- Demonstrated ability to organize budgets, schedules, facilities, and athletic events.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, or Head Coach.
- Administrative experience.
- Knowledge of athletic scheduling software and event management.
- CPR/First Aid certification.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY TO
Building Principal
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
District Athletic Program Leadership
- Provide leadership, direction, and supervision for all high school athletic programs.
- Collaborate with the McCain Middle School Athletic Director to develop and maintain a unified district athletic philosophy that promotes student growth, sportsmanship, participation, and competitive excellence.
- Establish and maintain consistent expectations for coaches, student-athletes, and athletic programs throughout the district.
- Assist in developing long-range goals and continuous improvement plans for district athletics.
- Promote equitable athletic opportunities for all students.
Coach Supervision and Development
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned instruction that promotes student learning and achievement.
- Prepare instructional materials and learning experiences appropriate for assigned courses.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Differentiate instruction based on student readiness, interests, and learning needs.
- Incorporate instructional technology to enhance student learning.
- Develop students' critical thinking, communication, collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving skills.
- Promote student engagement through meaningful and relevant learning experiences.
- Maintain lesson plans and instructional records as required.
Eligibility and Compliance
- Ensure student-athletes meet all eligibility requirements established by the district and IHSAA.
- Monitor academic eligibility, physical examinations, insurance documentation, and required participation forms.
- Promote compliance with district policies regarding student conduct, attendance, and citizenship.
- Ensure athletic programs comply with Title IX and all applicable federal and state laws.
Athletic Operations
- Coordinate scheduling for athletic contests, tournaments, officials, transportation, and event staff.
- Oversee game management, including supervision of home contests and special athletic events.
- Coordinate facility scheduling in collaboration with school administration and the McCain Middle School Athletic Director.
- Assist with athletic equipment purchasing, inventory, maintenance, and replacement planning.
- Coordinate athletic awards programs and recognition events.
Community Relations
- Facilitate and coordinate with athletic booster organizations.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the athletic department, students, families, community members, officials, and visiting schools.
- Promote positive public relations and communication regarding district athletic programs.
- Encourage community involvement and support of school athletics.
- Represent the district at league meetings, IHSAA meetings, and community events as assigned.
Budget and Resource Management
- Develop and administer the high school athletic budget.
- Monitor expenditures and ensure compliance with district purchasing and accounting procedures.
- Coordinate fundraising activities in accordance with district policy.
- Seek opportunities to improve athletic facilities, equipment, and programming.
Safety and Risk Management
- Promote safe participation in all athletic activities.
- Ensure the implementation of concussion protocols, emergency action plans, heat-illness prevention, and other student safety procedures.
- Coordinate with school nurses, athletic trainers, emergency personnel, and administrators regarding student-athlete health and safety.
- Monitor athletic facilities to promote safe playing conditions.
District Collaboration
- Meet regularly with the McCain Middle School Athletic Director to coordinate athletic programming, facility use, scheduling, and student-athlete development.
- Collaborate to create smooth transitions between middle school and high school athletic programs.
- Coordinate district coaching expectations and professional development.
- Assist one another during tournaments, large events, staffing shortages, or other operational needs.
- Work cooperatively with principals, counselors, transportation, maintenance, and other district departments to support athletic programs.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain confidentiality of student and personnel information.
- Demonstrate professionalism and ethical leadership.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
- Attend district meetings, league meetings, IHSAA meetings, and professional development activities.
- Remain current regarding changes in athletic administration, safety practices, and applicable laws.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Payette High School Principal consistent with the responsibilities of the position.
PHYSCIAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to sit, stand, walk, climb stairs, lift equipment, and supervise students during indoor and outdoor activities. Evening and weekend work is required. Reasonable accommodations will be provided in accordance with applicable law.
EVALUATION
Performance shall be evaluated annually by the Building Principal in accordance with district policy, Idaho law, and applicable administrative rule.
