Position Summary
Pagosa Springs Medical Center (PSMC) is seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Medical Assistant to join our Rural Health Clinic team.
The Medical Assistant supports providers in delivering high-quality patient care by performing clinical and administrative duties within scope of practice. Responsibilities include patient intake, vital signs, assisting with procedures, administering medications and immunizations, performing point-of-care testing, and coordinating follow-up care.
This role is ideal for candidates who are passionate about patient care and want to grow their clinical skills in a collaborative rural healthcare environment.

Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Perform patient intake including medical history, medications, and vital signs
- Assist providers with exams, procedures, and treatments
- Administer medications and immunizations under supervision
- Perform CLIA-waived laboratory testing
Clinical Support
- Conduct EKGs, injections, dressing changes, and other clinical tasks within scope
- Prepare exam rooms and maintain clean, stocked clinical spaces
- Follow infection prevention and safety protocols
Care Coordination
- Follow up on patient orders, referrals, and prior authorizations
- Support patient scheduling and ensure continuity of care
- Respond to patient calls, portal messages, and clinical inquiries
Documentation & Compliance
- Accurately document all patient interactions in the electronic health record
- Follow all scope-of-practice guidelines and clinic workflows
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred
Experience
- Clinical experience preferred; outpatient or physician office experience a plus
- New graduates or entry-level candidates may be considered
Certifications
- Medical Assistant certification preferred but not required
- AHA BLS certification required
Skills
- Strong patient care and communication skills
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health records
Work Environment
- Outpatient clinic setting with frequent patient interaction
- Exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and medical equipment
- Physical activity including standing, walking, and assisting patients
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Compensation Range: $18.00 - $22.38 hourly, based on years of relevant experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader.
