Job Title: Custodial Laborer

Employment Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt

Reports To: Custodial Services Supervisor

Salary: $22.61/hour

Shift: 2:30pm-11pm

Summary

The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation (BNYDC) is the not-for-profit corporation that serves as the real estate developer and property manager of the Yard on behalf of its owner, The City of New York (the “City”).  BNYDC constantly strives to provide an environment in which businesses and careers can take root and grow.

Laborers provide routine cleaning of the offices and grounds necessary to maintaining the premises, its various systems, buildings, physical structures and appurtenances.

Areas of Responsibility

• Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, or parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers, or snow shovels, or spread snow melting chemicals
• Drive trucks or other vehicles at work sites
• Service, clean, and/or supply restrooms
• Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming
• Clean building walls, gather and empty trash
• Dispose of trash or waste materials
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power cleaning equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures
• Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions, according to specifications
• Notify managers concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems
• Confer with supervisor to coordinate maintenance or cleaning activities; select equipment, materials, or supplies for cleaning or maintenance activities
• Mow or trim lawns and/or shrubbery, using mowers or hand or power trimmers, and remove debris from work sites
• Operate grounds maintenance equipment
• Set up, arrange, or remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, or scaffolding to prepare facilities for events, such as banquets or meetings
• Move furniture. Decorate indoor or outdoor spaces. Move heavy furniture, equipment, or supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks
• Spray insecticides or fumigants to prevent insect or rodent infestation
• Drive vans, industrial trucks, or other vehicles required to travel to or to perform cleaning worksites
• Prepares work sites as instructed
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

• At least 1 year of work experience

• Valid driver’s license required

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
