Job Summary:

The School Resource Officer is a vital and supportive member of the PCSD team, working collaboratively with educators, support staff, and administration to achieve the shared goal of ensuring all students receive the education they need to succeed both today and tomorrow. This role is performed within a school environment, overseen by the Chief of Police, where teamwork and dedication to student success are paramount.


All staff are expected to fully adhere to the ethical standards set forth by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, continuously demonstrating a strong understanding of the tasks and responsibilities their roles require. Moreover, they must embody the core belief that every action we take is driven by a commitment to the best interests of our students.

Primary Function:
The School Resource Officer serves as a sworn Georgia POST-certified public safety professional assigned to a Paulding County School District (PCSD) K-12 campus. The position provides visible campus security, proactive patrol, emergency preparedness coordination, and immediate response to safety incidents, while enforcing applicable local, state, and federal laws. This role operates under Georgia law, PCSD Board of Education policy, GLECP professional standards, and the PCSD Police Department Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). The Officer supports school administrators but does not exercise routine student disciplinary authority.

Qualifications:

Minimum of high school diploma or GED; Associate’s degree or higher preferred.


Active Georgia POST Peace Officer Certification or eligibility for transfer/reciprocity In Good Standing.


Proven experience in Law Enforcement or related field, preferably in an educational or similar setting.


Strong organizational and communication skills to develop and implement risk management programs effectively.


Working knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, guidelines, regulations, etc relating to law enforcement and the K12 landscape.


Successful completion of background check, physical agility assessment, psychological, drug screening, medical, firearms, and other essential pre-employment qualifications.


Valid Georgia Driver’s License and ability to operate government vehicles.


Ability to meet physical demands of patrol and emergency response.


The Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.


Essential Functions:

Provide for the safety and security of students, staff, visitors, and district property in accordance with Board policy and SOP.


Serve as a Sworn Law Enforcement Officer for the Paulding County School District


Enforces state, local and federal laws in accordance with Georgia law and department SOP, with consideration for laws and procedures specific to minors.


Conduct regular patrols of assigned buildings, grounds, and parking areas.


Reports all criminal and suspected criminal activity to the PCSD Police Department through report forms and procedures as directed by the chief of police and local school administration.


Submits written departmental documents, including, but not limited to, incident reports, accident reports, investigative reports, and administrative forms as directed by the chief of police.


Establish and maintain relationships with local law enforcement, fire departments, and other emergency responders.


Collects, preserves and documents evidence in accordance with department policy and legal standards, maintain proper chain of custody.


Control campus access points and enforce visitor management procedures.


Collaborate with the Paulding County Court system.


Serve as site Safety Coordinator responsible for Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) development and execution under Board Policy EBBF-R-Safety Coordinators, EBBC-Emergency Drills and relevant board policies.


Coordinate and document drills, exercises, and emergency preparedness activities.


Coordinates with local, state and federal law enforcement and emergency response agencies during incidents, including participation in unified command and integrated response.


Coordinate and document drills, exercises, and emergency preparedness activities.


Coordinate and document safety related systems such as Crisis Alert Systems, Visitor Management Systems, etc.


Responds to all active emergencies, including safety incidents, medical emergencies, security threats, and school-related threat investigations.


Assist administrators and PCSD School Police leadership with investigations.


Coordinate and/or conduct safety related training for staff, students, and other requested or required circumstances.


Monitor and report hazards, breaches, and suspicious activity.


Provides visible security presence during arrival, dismissal, and school events.


Assists with extracurricular activities as assigned by the principal and/or chief of police or supervisor.


Enforces Board policies regarding smoking, parking, loitering, trespassing, theft, vandalism, property damage, alcohol, drug abuse, and other school rules and regulations.


Attends in-service training as mandated by the Chief of Police, maintains compliance with Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council minimum standards, and meets all requirements related to such training.


Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, and best practices related to safety/security in K12 settings.


Other reasonable duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
