Paul Johnson Drywall is seeking an experienced Drywall Estimator to join our growing team. In this role, you will be responsible for producing accurate material and labor estimates for single-family home projects across Florida. The ideal candidate brings hands-on knowledge of residential drywall systems, a sharp eye for reading blueprints, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
Single-family detached residential drywall is the primary focus for this position, experience estimating townhomes and duplex projects is a strong plus and will be given preference during the hiring process.
• Review and interpret architectural blueprints, construction drawings, and specifications to produce complete scope-of-work estimates.
• Perform quantity takeoffs using prescribed templates, estimate sheets, and procedures.
• Prepare detailed bid packages. Submit on time, well qualified proposals to general contractors and builders.
• Identify and communicate scope gaps, plan discrepancies, or value-engineering opportunities before bid submission.
• Collaborate with the business development, operations, and project management teams during the preconstruction phase.
• Assist in the handoff of awarded projects to the production team, ensuring scope and budgets are clearly communicated and understood.
• Support change order pricing throughout active projects as design modifications arise
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with general contractors, builders, and purchasing agents in the Florida residential market
• Respond promptly and professionally to RFPs, scope questions, and bid clarifications.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in drywall estimating, with a strong focus on single-family residential construction
• Proven ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings
• Solid understanding of drywall assemblies and regional construction practices.
• Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Microsoft Excel, or similar)
• Strong math and analytical skills with high attention to detail
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation
• Experience estimating townhomes, duplexes, or other attached residential structures
• Familiarity with production homebuilder workflows and volume-build environments
• Prior field experience in drywall installation or supervision
• Experience with construction management or ERP software (e.g., Sage)
This is a full-time position based in Florida. The role is primarily office-based, with occasional field visits to job sites and pre-bid walkthroughs. Standard business hours apply, with flexibility required during peak bid seasons. Some travel within Florida may be required depending on project locations.
