Paul D. Camp Community College is a small 2-year college in Southeast Virginia. Campuses are located in Franklin and Suffolk. There also is a center in Smithfield. The college offers associate degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates In transfer and career/technical programs; credit and non-credit workforce services and training for businesses and industries; special interest classes for the community; and summer classes for youth through the Regional Workforce Development Center. A dual enrollment program for high school students, online courses, and developmental studies classes are available at the college as well.

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences.
1. Teaching : Creating a learning environment that facilitates students’ acquisition of knowledge and skills in a subject. Teaching encompasses four components: Instructional Design, Instructional Delivery, Instructional Effectiveness, and Instructional Expertise.
2. Scholarly and Creative Engagement: Engage in scholarly and/or creative activity, which may include conference attendance and presentation, professional organizations participation, academic coursework, scholarly research and publications, and grant activity.
3. Institutional Responsibility: Performing assigned or presumed duties according to one’s role at the college. These activities support and advance both the mission of the VCCS and the college to enhance the effective functioning of the college. These responsibilities include: participate in the college’s development and evaluation plan for part-time teaching faculty; participate in required department, committee and college meetings, adhere to college and VCCS policies, perform assigned duties, and maintain a collegial working relationship with faculty and staff.
4. Service : Quality participation and commitment to students, college and/or community organizations, which in an expectation of One’s activities as a professional educator. Activities in this domain are differentiated college representation, college citizenship, and community development.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.



KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in Criminal Justice or related field.
  • Ability to design and implement curricula that aligns elements of student learning to the student’s educational goals
  • Ability to develop and adapt teaching and learning strategies to accommodate traditional and non-traditional students with diverse backgrounds and varied academic competences.
  • Knowledge of methods to effectively teach Criminal Justice through various means of distance leaning.
  • Ability to learn and use various technologies for communication, organization of data and course materials, presentations, etc
  • Ability to use formative and summative assessment measures to evaluate and enhance student learning
  • Knowledge of, and experience with, proven teaching strategies that promote student success.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing for group or one-on one settings
  • Commitment to stay current and continually improve knowledge and understanding of the discipline
