Job Purpose Statement/s: The position of Teacher – Preschool is for the purpose/s of teaching with emphasis on development of the whole child, to include partnerships with parents.  Improving student success in social emotional learning, academics or skills through implementing District approved curriculum; developing lesson plans; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments; providing a safe and optimal learning environment and providing feedback to students, parents/caregivers, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc.

 

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop the whole child; emphasizing social-emotional, physical, approaches to learning, language and literacy and cognitive skills. Use Science of Reading practices to develop early literacy skills. Initiate activities and discussions that build a positive self-identity.  Demonstrate support of children and families in meeting their goals and prepare children for academic success.  Spend one-on-one time with children, developing skills and the bond between the teacher and child.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • Utilize District approved curriculum and instructional methods and materials that are developmentally and culturally appropriate for meeting objectives.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum and student outcomes. Maintain a clean, safe learning environment.
  • Assess students’ academic learning and/or skills for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents/caregivers and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, goals, etc.
  • Provide guidance and direction to meet the individual needs of children. Support and follow classroom procedures and expectations, Individual Family Support Plans (IFSP) and Behavior Support Plans.  Write behavior logs and track child development.
  • Work in a team setting with all staff to determine individual needs and strengths of each child. Design and implement lesson plans that will expose children to meaningful experiences.  Participate in curriculum development and recommend necessary changes.  This includes children from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds, multilingual learners, gifted, or on an Individual Family Service Plans (IFSP).
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents, appropriate service providers, and consultants for the purpose of improving the quality of student performance, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
  • Manage classroom operations; provide supervision, guidance, and coaching to Educational Assistants and classroom volunteers. Provide support to program schedule, policies and procedures.
  • Conduct at least two (2) home visits and regularly scheduled parent/teacher conferences with each child’s family.
  • Develop caring and trusting relationships with parents/caregivers and demonstrate culturally responsive practices. Greet parents/caregivers and children pleasantly and appropriately, ensuring a smooth transition into the classroom, a positive home-classroom connection and a family partnership.
  • Maintain ongoing professional and appropriate communication with parents/caregivers. Provide and demonstrate activities parents/caregivers can do at home with their children to support the curriculum, and the child’s learning and developmental needs.  Encourage parents/caregivers to be involved in their child’s education.
  • Prepare teaching materials and reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal record, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress. Maintain and monitor the maintenance of accurate and timely child attendance records.
  • Participate in school staff meetings, case-management meetings, IFSP meetings, collaboration meetings, Pre-Service and In-Service training as well as serve on staff and district committees as requested.
  • Report to work at scheduled time. Maintain good attendance. Perform all duties in a safe, timely, and professional manner.  Participate with a positive attitude and behavior in all program activities.
  • Continue professional growth by participating in ongoing; ECE education, training programs, and workshops and conferences, as the budget allows.
  • Become familiar with and uphold the enforcement of school rules, Administrative Regulations and Board Policy.
  • Demonstrate a professional and positive attitude when carrying out responsibilities as a staff member.
  • Meet the state standards for competent and ethical performance.

Other Job Functions:

  • Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals. – Above under “assess”.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and Administrative Regulations.
  • Confer with colleagues, administrators, students and/or parents/caregivers when necessary.
  • Participate in various meetings (e.g. parent/caregiver conferences, in-service training, building meetings, etc.) for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

Job Requirements – Qualifications:

  • Experience Preferred: Prior job-related experience.  Bilingual, English/Spanish.
  • Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

Skills in planning, developing, and implementing appropriate curriculum and assisting students in realizing success.  Effective communication skills with students, caregivers and other school personnel.

 

Knowledge of instructional theory and best practices, curriculum, state education code and district policies.

 

Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents/caregivers, other school personnel, meet schedules and deadlines.  Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying/reaching or handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception and accommodation field of vision.

  • Education Required: Master’s Degree (preferred) and License in Early Childhood Education (preferred) or Elementary Education.
  • Licenses, Bonding and/or Testing Required: Proper TSPC License, valid driver's License and evidence of insurability.
  • Other: First aid card and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate, Food Handers Card.

Terms of Employment:  192 days per year.  Salary to be established by the collective bargaining agreement.  May also include additional training days during the summer.  Up to ten (10) of the 192 contract days may be scheduled during summer non-work calendar days.

 

Evaluation:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Licensed Staff Personnel.
