Position: Mobile Patient Care Associate- Mobile Opioid Treatment Unit
Location: Pathway Healthcare Office
Position Role We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Patient Care Associate (PCA) for the Mobile Opioid Treatment Unit who plays a critical, dual-function role, supporting both front-desk administrative operations and clinical care delivery. This position is central to ensuring efficient, compassionate, and compliant services for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) and co-occurring behavioral health conditions. The PCA will also be responsible for operating, maintaining, and restocking the mobile treatment unit in accordance with regulatory standards and grant program requirements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Patient Access & Coordination (Mobile Setting)
- Welcome patients warmly upon arrival at the mobile unit, ensuring a respectful and culturally sensitive experience.
- Promptly answer incoming calls and voicemails; manage messages and document communication in the EMR (eClinicalWorks).
- Complete patient intake, including insurance verification, ID collection, and demographic entry.
- Schedule medical and behavioral health appointments; track and follow up on no-shows.
- Encourage completion of patient satisfaction surveys and gather feedback for service improvement.
2. Health Records & Billing Administration
- Perform insurance verification and collect payments for co-pays and outstanding balances.
- Maintain accurate administrative documentation, including day sheets, cash reconciliation, and referral tracking.
- Respond to medical records requests in full compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.
3. Clinical Support & Patient Care
- Prepare the patient area for each visit and review charts to ensure readiness.
- Conduct basic clinical assessments: vital signs, weight, and health questionnaires.
- Communicate assessment findings to providers and assist with physical exams and procedures.
- Facilitate TeleHealth sessions, ensuring smooth setup and communication between patients and providers.
- Perform clinical procedures, including:
- Blood draws
- Urine collection
- Alcohol and pregnancy testing
- Administering injections as directed
- Maintain logs for prescription accountability, biohazard disposal, and inventory tracking.
- Coordinate with insurers for medication prior authorizations and submit appeals when needed.
- Assist providers with EMR documentation and serve as a scribe when appropriate.
4. Mobile Clinic Inventory & Supply Management
- Monitor and restock clinical and administrative supplies daily to ensure mobile unit readiness.
- Maintain availability of PPE, diagnostic tools, testing materials, and patient handouts.
- Ensure exam areas are consistently organized, stocked, and clean.
5. Mobile Unit Operations & Maintenance
- Drive the mobile medical unit safely to scheduled service locations throughout Tennessee.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and compliance with operational standards.
- Maintain a clean, orderly, and sanitary environment within the mobile clinic at all times.
- Refill fresh water tanks and dispose of wastewater safely, following environmental and public health guidelines.
- Troubleshoot basic equipment issues; promptly report mechanical or operational concerns to management.
Qualifications
· High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or certification in a healthcare-related field preferred.
· Minimum one year of experience in a medical, behavioral health, or substance use treatment setting.
· Proficient in basic computer operations and EMR systems (preferably eClinicalWorks).
· Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
· Demonstrated ability to work independently in a mobile or remote setting.
· Current CPR or BLS certification (required prior to start date).
· Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required.
· Comfort driving a large vehicle (training provided) and performing light maintenance tasks.
· Willingness to travel extensively and work in non-traditional care settings.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Work is primarily performed in a mobile clinic environment, which may involve outdoor settings and exposure to varying weather conditions, with occasional office-based duties.
- Must be able to sit, stand, and drive for extended periods.
- Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate computers, medical instruments, and mobile devices.
- Occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs (supplies, equipment).
- Occasional exposure to biohazardous materials; proper PPE and protocols must be followed.
- Must be comfortable working in variable weather conditions and in a mobile unit setting.

This position is funded through a Tennessee state grant to support the expansion of opioid treatment access via mobile units. Continued employment is contingent upon ongoing funding,
