ASCP Certified Pathologists' Assistant

SEEKING:

• We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented ASCP-Certified Pathologists' Assistant to join our Pathology Laboratory team

There is NO On-Call

OVERVIEW:

• The Pathologists' Assistant (PA) will work closely with a Pathologist to support the laboratory diagnosis of disease.
• The Certified Pathologists' Assistant will be doing tissue handling and grossing. Current caseload is around 1000 cases per month and growing
• The PA will be responsible for performing dissections, embedding, microtomy and staining of tissue samples, and also assist in the preparation of tissue samples for examination by Pathologists.
• They will also play an important role in the administration and management of the Pathology laboratory.

MORE INFO:

• We are seeking a Certified Pathologists' Assistant who is specifically trained in grossing/dissection techniques and pathology oriented clinical medicine, creating an individual whose expertise is in anatomic pathology tissue specimens
• The typical day will be spent grossing and dictating the gross exam of surgical specimens and preparing them for processing for the Histotechs
• PATHOLOGISTS: We have two Pathologist’s that sit at this facility and one that is down the road at the groups private lab
• We use EPIC Beaker and there is barcode scanning
• Hours for this position 0800-1630
• We may do one frozen per week. This may increase, as we continue to grow, but this is our current volume. We do not currently have a Pathologists' Assistant. The Pathologists are currently doing the frozens. The Pathologists' Assistant will be responsible, once we find one.
• The Pathology Assistant will be responsible for the majority of the grossing. We do have a Histotech that can gross small biopsies and is going learn to gross some other specimen types, as well.
• We do all specimen types. Biopsies, gallbladders, kidneys, intestines, breast, bone, appendix, etc.
• We currently have one main grosser and one that mainly accessions and grosses biopsies with our current volume averaging around 890 cases per month.
• The Pathology Org chart is currently changing for Pathology; with all of the new vacancies.
• There is currently a Pathology Laboratory Coordinator, 2 Histotechs and 2 staff that work on the grossing side. The Pathology Coordinator (who also is currently the second grosser) is leaving to pursue a career in cytology, the other grossing staff member is moving to Blood Bank as a Blood Bank Tech; therefore there are openings for the PA, the Pathology Technologist, and the Pathology Coordinator. There is not a Pathology Lab Manager.

COMPENSATION:

• $90,000 to $135,000 annually / Negotiable
• $10,000 BONUS
• $7,500 RELOCATION

REQUIRED:

• ASCP Certified Pathologists' Assistant
• ASCP-PA / ASCP-Pathology Asst
• Master’s degree in Pathologist Assistant Program from accredited institution (NAACLS)
