Student Support Services Tutor/Mentor (PT Internal)

The Student Support Services (SSS) Classic Program is seeking a current Passaic County Community College student for a tutor/mentor position. This person should have strong interpersonal skills to support participants in the program. As a tutor, you will work with fellow students to assist students to improve their reading and writing skills. Tutors are expected to work one-to-one and/or in small groups assisting students. It is the mentor's primary responsibility to serve as a role model for students while supporting them through individual and group meetings toward their success.

This is a part-time, hourly position.

Mentor Duties:

• Create a professional and welcoming environment for our students.
• Conduct check-n meetings with mentees monthly.
• Provide mentees with campus resources and make appropriate referrals if necessary.

Tutor Duties:

• Possess basic technical computer knowledge.
• Must be dependable, organized, and pay attention to details.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality, follow through on directions and complete assigned work in a timely manner.
• Must maintain a professional interactive and/or telephone manner, possess respectful verbal communication with both staff and students.
• Provide students with positive and constructive feedback.

Qualifications:

• Must have a B or higher in the course providing tutoring and a GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Completed at least two (2) full semesters at PCCC
• Have a flexible schedule with evening and Saturday availability.

The completion of a background check will be required for the selected candidate.

Compensation: The hourly pay for this position is $16.
