JOB SUMMARY
A highly visible civilian position involved in the daily operations of the Purchasing department. Responsible for ordering equipment, supplies and other items in compliance with agency directives and best purchasing practices. This position also assists with cost-control procedures utilizing an internal inventory program in order to prevent loss through accurate tracking and rotating of merchandise to ensure that items are not expired. Responsible for conducting weekly audits and physical quarterly inventory counts during which all variances will be evaluated, reconciled and reported to management. Purchasing Technician will adhere to an efficient space utilization plan as instructed by the department manager. Purchasing Technician will assist in identifying shortages and/or administrative errors during the annual asset audit. The successful candidate will have exceptional math and observational skills and work with meticulous accuracy. Work involves collaboration with other agency employees who are engaged in clerical and manual support tasks to include the handling, receipt, storage, issuance, and records maintenance of stock and assets. May also assist in receiving and properly storing a variety of supplies, materials, and equipment while utilizing hand trucks, or other handling equipment to move material to and from trucks and/or between locations. Enters requisitions and receipt of supplies into a computerized inventory system. Maintains a clean and safe work area and ensures all inventory and/or stock areas are maintained in an orderly manner. EOE/ADA
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/LICENSES
High School Equivalent (Diploma/General Equivalency Diploma) required. Associate’s degree preferred. Two years of experience in retail, clerical, warehousing, public or private procurement, inventory management or recordkeeping preferred. Must maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License at all times. Unescorted CJIS clearance as authorized by FDLE is required.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
The physical abilities listed below are estimates of time spent during a typical workday to perform essential functions and responsibilities. Members in this position may be required to:
- Sit up to 5 hours per day
- Stand up to 2 hours per day
- Walk up to 2 hours per day
- Occasionally lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
o Includes lifting equipment to access overhead locations or equipment/supply storage
- Daily bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, or twisting
- Ability to climb ladder
Other Requirements:
- Valid Florida Driver’s License
- 20/40 vision (corrected/uncorrected)
- Ability to hear conversation at a normal level (assisted or unassisted)
- Ability to work shift work
