This Atlanta metro-based position is responsible for leading, growing, and maintaining a strong team at the Partnership for Southern Equity, including the direct supervision and development of full-time staff and consultants. The Just Opportunity Director helps facilitate power cultivation and racial equity through our economic inclusion and capital democratization work to support systems transformation at all levels of government and in all sectors encompassing the economic equity ecosystem.

The Just Opportunity Director provides strategic executive, programmatic, and administrative leadership for the Just Opportunity Portfolio. Furthermore, this position requires a deft ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners to realize PSE’s vision of economic liberation. Next, the Director serves as the subject-matter expert in racial equity, capital democratization, public finance, urban planning, entrepreneurship, small-business catalysis, equity economic development, community engagement, legislative advocacy, workforce development, and system-change management.

Lastly, the ideal candidate will possess strong capabilities in fundraising, program design and management, grant management, written and oral communication, relationship cultivation, personnel leadership, community organizing, and other skills attributable to high-functioning leadership.

  • Candidates should note this position is based in the Atlanta metro area. Working in and around metro Atlanta (as well as the southeastern United States) is critical to success in this role.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the PSE leadership team, providing strategic thought partnership to support the organization's overall success.
  • Prepare documentation required for project funding for various economic development and workforce initiatives, including proposals, grant applications, and grant reporting.
  • Draft and prepare reports, presentations, and proposals for the PSE board, executive team, and external stakeholders.
  • Negotiate, execute, and manage consultant and vendor contracts as well as memoranda of understanding with organizations and institutions.
  • Develop and maintain appropriate documentation and records, including budgets and other financials.
  • Work collaboratively across demographic and geographic spectrums to secure policy change and cultivate power.
  • Work across PSE portfolios and initiatives to address issues through an intersectional lens.
  • Propose and implement strategies and programs to address various economic and workforce concerns, including equitable economic development, capital democratization, small business development, workforce development, policy advocacy, entrepreneurship, and community engagement.
  • Provide vision and guidance toward the retention, expansion, and activities of the PSE’s Just Opportunity Circle and Just Opportunity Academy.
  • Evaluate the efficacy of Just Opportunity programs, recommending and implementing improvements as necessary.
  • Assist with the development of an authentic communications and information sharing strategy that captures the learnings and best practices of Just Opportunity and its racial equity, organizational, and community transformation work.
  • Conduct research to identify economic and workforce concerns, interests, and issues that are relevant and impactful.
  • Maintain current working knowledge of, and ensure compliance with, all applicable local, state, and federal economic development laws and regulations.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships within the equity ecosystem of racial justice among local, regional, and national partners, policymakers, and funders.
  • Exceptional personnel management and empathetic leadership that inspire and elevate staff responsibility and performance.
  • Identifies and facilitates training as needed.
  • Foster an environment that promotes trust and cooperation amongst PSE staff, community members, and partner organizations.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
