Position: Lead Mechanical Design Engineer – CO₂ Refrigeration Systems
We are seeking an experienced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to drive the development of innovative refrigeration, heat pump, and chiller solutions, with a strong focus on CO₂ systems. This role is central to advancing our Industrial Systems Engineering projects while ensuring alignment with departmental standards and goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical design of Industrial Systems Engineering projects in compliance with established standards.
- Design refrigeration, heat pump, and chiller products, with emphasis on CO₂ refrigerant systems.
- Apply technical expertise in refrigeration, heat pumps, chillers, and related components.
- Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Sales teams to develop comprehensive product design documents.
- Partner with vendors to collect specifications and requirements for components.
- Analyze and compare Hussmann products against competitor offerings, highlighting advantages and areas of improvement.
- Communicate design requirements, updates, and changes effectively across departments.
- Select and size mechanical, electrical, and electronic components based on project-specific needs and company standards.
- Create and edit P&IDs and other mechanical design drawings using AutoCAD.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 7 years of hands-on engineering experience in refrigeration, heat pump, and chiller design.
- 5 years of direct experience in CO₂ refrigeration system design and development.
- Broad knowledge of refrigeration systems and components, including trans-critical CO₂, cascade CO₂, and CO₂ secondary systems.
- Strong familiarity with Hussmann products and proven ability to develop customized solutions.
- In-depth understanding of industry product and system designs.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to translate customer needs into technical specifications.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, with the ability to create and edit P&IDs from scratch.
- Willingness to travel up to 25%.

- Adaptability and openness to new technologies, processes, and tools.
- Knowledge of application engineering tools and ability to support their development and maintenance.
- Experience collaborating with application and sustaining engineers to support product lifecycle and new technology integration.
