JOB TITLE: Design Consultant

REPORTS TO: Design Center Manager

POSITION SUMMARY: The Design Consultant is responsible for guiding homebuyers through the process of selecting exterior and interior finishes, including both standard features and upgrade options, to personalize their new home. This position requires the ability to recommend and coordinate cohesive design selections while helping buyers make informed personal and financial decisions within defined timeframes.

The role demands a high level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong product knowledge, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to collaborate effectively with homebuyers, sales, purchasing, construction, and internal support teams.

A polished, professional appearance and demeanor are required, as well as the ability to follow through on all orders and maintain accurate documentation throughout the selection and building process.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES as follows; however, other duties and responsibilities may be added, modified periodically as deemed necessary by the Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS (including but not limited to):

·      Demonstrates a thorough understanding of Design Center policies, procedures, and workflows.

·      Guides homebuyers through the selection process by providing detailed information on available products, upgrade options, and associated pricing, ensuring alignment with individual budgets.

·      Offers expert design guidance by coordinating materials, colors, and finishes to meet buyers’ aesthetic preferences and functional requirements.

·      Manages custom and special requests, including researching feasibility and presenting viable solutions.

·      Responds promptly and accurately to buyer inquiries related to design options, product specifications, and availability.

·      Prepares detailed selection sheets, floor plan diagrams, and clarification addendums to ensure transparency and buyer understanding; obtains timely approvals and enters data into company systems (e.g., EPB).

·      Processes and documents changes to color selections or upgrades in accordance with construction timelines and internal procedures.

·      Maintains clear communication with internal departments, including sales and construction—regarding buyer selections and updates.

·      Acts as a liaison between the buyer, sales team, and construction team to ensure alignment and clarity throughout the build process.

·      Educates buyers on the care, maintenance, and performance of selected materials, including setting realistic expectations for products with natural variation.

·      Delivers a high-quality customer experience by meeting or exceeding expectations for service, responsiveness, and professionalism.

·      Assists with organizing, labeling, and maintaining Design Center displays and product samples.

·      Helps ensure all product reference materials are current and accessible to staff and buyers.

·      Supports the team in maintaining a clean, welcoming, and well-organized Design Center environment.

·      Participate in the evaluation and selection of product offerings that reflect current trends, support design flexibility, and maximize revenue opportunities.

·      Provides additional support to the Design Center Manager and team as needed.

·      Product Knowledge Training Meetings

·      Weekley Starts Meeting

Work Schedule:

·      Regular Operating Hours:

Monday-Friday                     8 a.m. to 5 p.m.


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS (unless otherwise indicated):

·      Interior Design Degree

·      3-5 years’ experience as a Design Consultant in a Builder Design Center or Design Firm

·      Self-motivated, requires minimal supervision, thorough, uses time and other resources effectively, and follows instructions and procedures

·      Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) and detail oriented


EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:

Computer: Word, Excel, e-mail, AutoCAD, SketchUp

Phone systems, Copier and Plotter Machines

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Lifting and moving up to 50 pounds

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Office environment
