The Area Supervisor – Quality Control & Shipping plays a key role in managing daily operations across both departments, ensuring timely case processing, shipment accuracy, product quality, and team performance. This role balances strategic oversight with hands-on involvement to meet productivity, remake, and shipping goals. In this role, you will leverage your leadership skills, manufacturing and logistics experience, and process-driven approach to ensure operational success and team performance across both departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Shipping and Receiving Oversight:
- Supervise daily shipping and receiving operations to ensure all FedEx pickups are ready by 5:00 PM and drivers depart for local deliveries by 9:00 AM
- Ensure shipping workflows are efficient and aligned with production deadlines
- Oversee accuracy of outbound shipments and maintain proper documentation
- Monitor and improve logistics workflows and inventory handling
Quality Control Leadership:
- Oversee daily quality control functions and ensure quality control checklists are completed for all lab employees
- Review checklists for completeness and accuracy; return any incomplete or missing forms directly to the responsible employees supervisor for immediate completion
- Enforce quality expectations across departments in alignment with company standards
- Support the goal of maintaining companywide remake rates under 2% of revenue through proactive quality control practices
Team & Operational Leadership
- Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and support to staff in both areas
- Conduct pre-shift huddles and ensure teams are aligned with expectations and goals
- Foster a safe, organized and efficient work environment
- Implement lean manufacturing principles including 5S, continuous improvement, and standardized workflows
Collaboration & Reporting
- Communicate regularly with the other Area Supervisors and General Manager of the lab
- Submit timely updates, performance data, and department insights to the General Manager, who will represent the area in management meetings
- Assist in implementing initiatives and improvements shared from leadership through your manager
What We’re Looking For:
- Warehouse Experience: Minimum 3-5 years in a manufacturing or warehouse setting, with experience leading teams.
- Leadership & People Management: Strong ability to motivate and develop employees while holding them accountable to expectations.
- Problem-Solving & Decision Making: Ability to analyze challenges and implement effective solutions quickly.
- Process Improvement: Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and a mindset for continuous improvement.
- Communication Skills: Clear, direct, and professional communication with employees, peers, and leadership.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable using MS Office/Google Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and warehouse management systems (WMS).
- Adaptability: Ability to adjust to changing priorities and business needs in a fast-paced environment.
Physical & Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a manufacturing and warehouse environment with exposure to moving machinery, temperature variations, and airborne particles.
- Requires regular standing, walking, reaching, and occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
- PPE, including safety eyewear, must be worn as required.
Ideal hours for this role would be 9:00 am - 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday. May require flexibility in scheduling, including evening or weekend work depending on production needs.
