This position is an on-campus, full-time, tenure-track appointment based in Champaign, Illinois covered by the Parkland Academic Employees (PAE) collective bargaining unit. The starting salary range is between $49,454.18 - 74,616.65, commensurate with certifications, years of teaching experience, and education received.

Serves as Faculty for Parkland College's Veterinary Technology Program. Works together with the program Veterinarian and other teaching faculty, will help coordinate acquisition, disposition, care, and use of the live animals for the Veterinary Technology Program.

Tenure-Track Faculty teach a full-time load as per the Parkland Academic Employees (PAE) bargaining agreement. They advise and mentor students and participate in governance of their departments and the college.

Essential Job Functions

  • Provide classroom instruction in accordance with the stated philosophy, objectives, and established course outlines of the college and conduct program evaluation.
  • Perform professional clinical duties in accordance with established policies and procedures of the clinical faculty, the Health Professionals Department, Parkland College, and Illinois State Law.
  • Maintain all professional credentials required to teach in area of discipline; meet essential qualifications to teach lecture and lab in the discipline, including ongoing professional development.
  • Inform students of course regulations, evaluation procedures, and other information pertinent to the course; prepare a course syllabus for each course and post with other course information on college’s Learning Management System (LMS) by date set by the College.
  • Format test and quizzes; obtain questions from lecturing faculty; administer test and answer questions.
  • Maintain regular office hours to ensure availability for student consultation; provide assistance to students in a timely manner.
  • Participate in department and college-wide shared governance, including Parkland College Association (PCA) Senate, its committees, administrative committees, and accreditation committees.
  • Is available for student advising/mentoring.
  • Participate in the instruction of other classes if needed and availability allows.
  • Maintain accurate scholastic records of students; submit required reports on student progress according to published deadlines.
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention efforts.
  • Course Instructor for VTT 110, Small Animal Nursing 1 and VTT 111, Small Animal Nursing 2, along with any other Veterinary Technology courses as needed.
  • Participate in Vet Tech program and health professions department meetings

CVT Functions

  • Committee member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use committee; prepare and review SOPs, procedures and protocols specific to the Animal Welfare Act.
  • Assists Veterinary Technology Program faculty and staff with acquisition and disposition of all live animals used for the program.
  • Assist with monitoring inventory and ordering of supplies as needed.
  • Collaborate with the DVM on care and use of all teaching animals.
  • Supervision and coordination of student animal care and paid holiday kennel care schedules along with other Veterinary Technology program faculty.
  • Available for weekend grading and supervision of animal care
  • Share animal care on-call duties during the semester up to 50% of the time. This includes weekdays, weekends, holidays and school breaks, when animals are present. Animals are not present during the summer session. Available to answer student questions, triage, and transport an animal to U of I if after hours emergency care is needed.
  • Work closely with advisory and faculty committees to maintain and improve the quality of course and programs.
  • Work as liaison between appropriate agencies in the community.
  • Assist director in program evaluation and accreditation procedures.
  • Minimum four days per week on campus required for animal care and faculty responsibilities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Faculty Chair, or Dean.

Minimum Requirements

  • Licensed as a Certified Veterinary Technician in Illinois or equivalent if coming from another state. Must obtain and maintain active Illinois Certified Veterinary Technician license by the start date of August 10, 2026.
  • Has not had any disciplinary action against license.
  • Holds an associate degree or higher in Veterinary Technology from an AVMA accredited institution.
  • Current knowledge and work experience including at least three (3) years of private practice experience working as a Certified Veterinary Technician in a progressive veterinary team. This experience must have been obtained in the last 10 years.
  • Experience working with live animals in a variety of species within the last three (3) years.
  • Prospective new hires will successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting. The background check review includes, but is not limited to, exclusionary offenses per the Illinois School Code and Title IV of the Higher Education Act.
  • Must meet all clinical requirements.
  • Maintains all professional credentials required to teach in area of discipline; meet essential qualifications to teach lecture and lab.

  • Ability to learn the Parkland information system and new programs as technology changes.
  • In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment.This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
