Tenure-Track or Clinical Track Open Rank Professor in Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery

Full-time, 100% (12-month basis)

 Requirements: The successful candidate must have a DVM degree or equivalent and have achieved American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) board certification or completed residency training with credentials accepted by the ACVS. Preference will be given to candidates with ACVS certification, advanced degree(s), a track record in scholarship, and/or prior research training.

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine features modern animal care and research facilities.  Duties:The University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital is a full-service facility with newly equipped surgical suites and fluoroscopic capabilities. The orthopedic service at the University of Illinois sees a wide variety of orthopedic cases. Equipment to perform arthroscopy, interlocking nail (I-LocÒ IM Fixator) and total hip replacement are available, in addition to standard orthopedic equipment needed for fracture repair and other commonly seen orthopedic conditions. On-site services include digital radiography, 128 slice computed tomography, 3T MRI, radiation therapy, Dual Energy X-Ray absorptiometry (DEXA), force plate gait analysis, and physical rehabilitation. Percent time dedicated to teaching, scholarly activities, and clinical service will be based on the successful candidate’s appointment title.

The small animal surgery program at the University of Illinois’ College of Veterinary Medicine is composed of a highly productive and dynamic group of specialists who have achieved excellence in the arenas of comparative research, resident instruction, and high-quality application of cutting-edge diagnostic modalities and therapies for companion animals.

Upon joining our team, the successful candidate will provide clinical service in small animal orthopedic surgery, contribute to the didactic and clinical instruction of surgical residents, surgical; interns, rotating interns, and veterinary students, and communicate effectively with clients and primary veterinarians. A strong interest and/or experience in joint replacement is welcomed. In addition, we have a well-established and busy rehabilitation therapy program integral to our orthopedic service with opportunities for growth.

The University of Illinois is highly focused on faculty and service development and growth and will provide significant funding and support for additional equipment and training to candidates with special interests or skills in areas relevant to small animal orthopedic surgery. Teaching responsibilities will include didactic, small group, and laboratory instruction of veterinary and graduate students. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in clinically and scientifically relevant scholarship. Salary: The budgeted salary range for this position is $160,000 to $200,000. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including equivalent years in rank, training, and field or discipline; internal equity; and external market pay for comparable positions.
