Job Description:
Expressive Therapy (art, music, and play) helps children and youth understand and express their emotions through creative and kinesthetic treatment. It empowers them to manage stress and communicate their feelings during the challenging time of undergoing a chronic condition and/or life-threatening illness and the trauma that often comes with its treatment. By engaging in these therapeutic activities, children and youth can safely explore their emotions and gain a sense of control and self-expression.
Responsibilities:
- Providing goal-oriented care to clients as developed in the service plan process.
- Timely documentation of services
- Adhering to compliance expectations of PSCMH's Children's HCBS program.
- Ongoing supervision with a licensed Creative Arts Therapist in the State of New York.
Experience Requirements:
- Minimum of one year working with the medically fragile population and
- Minimum of one year of clinical experience with the pediatric population, preferably involving end of life care
Minimum Qualifications:
- Child Life Specialist with certification through the Child Life Council or
- Creative Arts Therapist licensed by the State of New York or
- Music Therapist with a bachelor's degree from a program recognized by the NYS Education Department or
- Play Therapist with a master's degree from a program recognized by the New York State Education Department; current Play Therapist Registration conferred by the Association for Play Therapy
- Student interns, working under the guidance of a licensed professional and within the rules of New York State education law, can provide Expressive therapy under the supervision of a licensed supervisor.
