About the Role
The VP, Controller will serve as the company's senior technical accounting authority and lead all external financial reporting. Reporting to the CFO, this executive will ensure the integrity of financial statements, drive compliance with SEC reporting requirements, and provide authoritative guidance on complex accounting matters across the organization.
Responsibilities
Technical Accounting
- Own all technical accounting research, documentation, and policy development under U.S. GAAP
- Lead assessment and implementation of new accounting standards (ASC 842, ASC 606, ASC 350, etc.)
- Partner with deal, legal, and operations teams to evaluate accounting implications of transactions, acquisitions, and new business arrangements
- Maintain and enforce the company's accounting policies and internal controls framework
External Reporting
- Oversee preparation and filing of all SEC documents (10-K, 10-Q, 8-K, proxy)
- Manage relationships with external auditors; lead the audit and quarterly review process
- Partner with Investor Relations on earnings releases and financial messaging
- Coordinate XBRL tagging and disclosure committee processes
Leadership & Cross-Functional
- Lead and develop a team of 8–12 accounting professionals
- Serve as a key liaison to the Audit Committee
- Support treasury, tax, FP&A, and M&A teams on accounting and reporting matters
Qualifications
- CPA required; Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred
- 12 years of progressive accounting experience; minimum 3–5 years in a senior leadership role
- SEC reporting experience required; hospitality, lodging, or multi-unit industry experience a plus
- Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP and SEC regulations
- Demonstrated ability to manage and develop high-performing teams
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex accounting issues for executive and board-level audiences
