Senior Cost Accounting Manager
We are seeking a Senior Cost Accounting Manager to lead cost accounting and inventory finance for a growing manufacturing organization. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced plant environment and wants to partner closely with operations, supply chain, and executive leadership.
The ideal candidate brings strong experience in standard costing, inventory accounting, variance analysis, month-end close, budgeting, and ERP-driven reporting. This person will play a critical role in strengthening financial visibility, improving controls, driving margin performance, and supporting strategic decision-making across the business.

What You’ll Do
- Lead all cost accounting activities for manufacturing operations, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and variance analysis
- Manage monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities related to inventory, cost of goods sold, reserves, and manufacturing accruals
- Analyze and explain material, labor, overhead, purchase price, scrap, and production variances
- Own and maintain the standard cost system, including annual cost rolls and ongoing updates for BOMs, routings, labor, and overhead rates
- Partner with plant leadership, operations, engineering, and supply chain to improve cost accuracy and operational performance
- Oversee inventory controls, physical inventory processes, cycle counts, reconciliations, and internal control compliance
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-range planning for manufacturing spend, absorption, burden, and inventory
- Develop clear, actionable reporting for plant leadership and senior finance management
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, margin improvement, and process efficiency
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policy, and internal control requirements
- Support internal and external audits, including preparation of schedules, reconciliations, and documentation
- Lead, coach, and develop cost accounting staff while helping build scalable finance processes for a growing operation
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 7 years of progressive accounting or finance experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong background in cost accounting, inventory accounting, and standard costing
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar
- Strong understanding of BOMs, routings, labor and overhead absorption, and manufacturing variances
- Experience supporting month-end close, budgeting, forecasting, and audit activities
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial modeling / reporting capability
- Ability to partner cross-functionally and communicate financial information to non-finance leaders
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and a continuous improvement approach
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA, CMA, or MBA
- Multi-site manufacturing experience
- Experience with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement initiatives
- Background leading or mentoring accounting teams
- Exposure to automation, BI tools, or dashboard reporting
