Quality Assurance Inspection Supervisor or Manager

Overview / Summary:

Manages the Quality Assurance Inspection Technicians (“inspectors”) focusing on expediting throughput (workflow) of highly transactional or repetitive inspection jobs. Oversees and monitors the inspection of parts and products on computerized inspection equipment (Keyence LM & Vision System SeeBrez) to ensure adherence to established quality standards. Evaluate current inspection methods and trends to identify process improvements. Obtains feedback from inspectors and identifies issues to make corrective recommendations. Works under moderate supervision with moderate independent judgement.

Essential Duties:

• Supervise Quality Assurance Inspection Technicians who perform simple to complex mechanical / dimensional inspections for first article, in-process, and final inspections per blueprints and/or other written specifications using designated inspection equipment such as optical computerized numerically controlled measuring systems. 
• Hold inspectors accountable for throughput and time-management to optimize inspection production timeframes. Facilitate a department culture for job-closure urgency while maintaining accuracy, and push inspectors to work within their regular shift hours to cut down on excessive overtime in the department.
• Prioritize jobs based on urgency and allocate resources to adjust for demand changes.
• Ensure all inspectors are cross trained to allow for flexibility during resource management.
• Monitor and audit processes against established standards and conduct continuous analysis of quality defects and deviations to determine root causes for delay issues.
• Identifies deficiencies or gaps in testing activities and develops solutions to ensure adequate and robust quality processes. Analyze and report inspection delays to assist with the development and implementation for improvements.
• Ensure inspectors’ documentation is recorded accurately, re-train on proper documentation practices if necessary.
• Ensure all inspectors are trained on all new and revised procedures.
• Manage performance of inspectors. Assist with performance reviews.
• Communicate out of tolerance conditions or acceptability of product based on specification with Machine Operators and Manufacturing Manager.
• Recommend continuous improvements for processes and procedures.
• Evaluate people-resources and recommend additional personnel when necessary. Assist with interviewing and selection of inspection candidates.

Education:

Required: High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Preferred: Some college or technical training.

Experience and Competencies:

Required:

• A minimum of one (1) year of supervisory or management position, quality assurance mechanical inspection experience, or a combination of education and/or experience.
• Complex First Article inspection experience.
• Experience with Vision systems (Keyence IM series preferred or LM Series) inspections.
• Proficient with MS Office (Outlook, Word, etc.). Basic working knowledge with Excel. 
• Good communication skills; verbal and written.
• Excellent time-management skills.

Preferred:

• Experience with ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Tolerance and ANSI Z 1.4 Sampling Plan. 
• Understanding of calibration programs. 
• Basic experience working with a statistical process control program.
• Interpret and comprehend Engineering blueprints / drawings.
• Understanding of thread specifications and classifications. 
• Able to perform product traceability tasks by reviewing the product history, researching, and investigating all steps and processes pertaining to the specific product to ensure the effectiveness of the Quality System.       

Physical:

• Wear slip resistance shoes while on the manufacturing shop floor.
• While performing the duties, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear and will occasionally be required to bend, stoop, kneel and climb stairs.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and other ability to adjust focus.
