Job Title: MUSIC AIDE Range 16
Position Purpose:
To assist certificated teacher(s) in the instruction, supervision and training of individual or groups of music students by performing a variety of instructional support activities and arrange and score musical compositions. Employees in this classification receive direct supervision within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures. This job class provides a variety of responsible instructional and support activities to enhance the music program and requires a high degree of positive contact with both students and certificated staff.

Essential Job Duties:
The following tasks are essential for this position. Incumbents in this classification may not perform all of these tasks, or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.
1. Assists teacher(s) in instructing individuals and groups of students in various musical learning situations.
2. Assists in supervising students to maintain effective learning environments, noting behavioral and other problems observed and disciplining/reporting when necessary.
3. Assists in organizing learning and/or instructional environment; setting up materials for daily activities and maintaining neat and orderly classroom/instructional areas.
4. Prepares instructional materials and/or equipment for use in musical activities; gathers appropriate resource information, materials and equipment.
5. Provides teacher(s) with relevant feedback and information on students’ progress through observation, daily contact and maintaining accurate student progress records.
6. Assists in establishing and maintaining class related records.
7. Arranges and scores musical compositions.
8. Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Knowledge, Skill and Ability:
Knowledge of:
- · Proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation.
- · General needs and behaviors of students.
- · Pertinent musical areas and learning/performing musical arrangement and scoring.
- · Computer sequencing skills as needed.
- · Learn methods and procedures to be followed in assigned instructional situation.
- · Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms.
- · Understand and carry out both oral and written instructions.
- · Understand the needs of students and to effectively relate to these needs in a learning/performing situation.
- · Learn the requirements of the students in the specific music program(s) to which assigned.
- · Maintain a firm but patient and courteous attitude toward students.
- · Effectively supervise students in a variety of situations.
- · Establish and maintain accurate records and files.
- · Arrange and score music.
- · Sight read and play four part harmony choral arrangements.
- · Operate standard music equipment as appropriate to area of assignment including piano, computerized keyboard, etc.
- · Exercise tact, diplomacy and good judgment in dealing with students.
- · Maintain the security and confidentiality of specified records and information.
- · Learn District and school policies related to the conduct, safety and welfare of students in assigned areas.
- · Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
- · Require vision (which may be corrected) to read small print.
- · Require mobility of arms to reach and dexterity of hands to grasp and manipulate small objects. Lower body mobility may not be required.
