Paradise Fibers has been a home for spinners, knitters, weavers, and crocheters for over 20 years. Our shop at 225 W. Indiana is part retail store, part gathering place. We are looking for someone to run our front counter who genuinely loves this craft and can talk shop with the people who walk through the door. This is a hands-on, full time role that moves between the sales floor and the warehouse.
What you'll do
- Greet customers, answer questions, and help them find the right yarn, hook, needle, or notion for their project
- Ring up sales at the register and handle returns and exchanges
- Help customers wind yarn, match dye lots, and estimate yardage for a project
- Use a step stool or ladder to reach product on high shelving for customers
- Keep the sales floor stocked, tidy, and merchandised
- Help in the warehouse with receiving shipments, unloading boxes, and restocking
- Pick online orders during slower counter hours
- Answer phone and email questions from customers
What we're looking for
- Previous retail or customer service experience
- Working knowledge of knitting and crochet. You should be comfortable reading a pattern, recognizing yarn weights, and answering "will this work for what I'm making?"
- Friendly and patient with customers of every skill level, especially beginners
- Reliable and comfortable working independently during quieter shifts
- Great computer skills for point of sale and email
- Shopify experience preferred
- Willingness to jump between the counter and the warehouse as the day requires
- Available to work Saturdays
Physical requirements
- Standing and walking for most of a shift
- Lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs, with heavier items handled as a two person lift
- Climbing and working from a ladder or step stool
- Bending, reaching overhead, and kneeling to stock shelves
Nice to have
- Experience with spinning, weaving, or felting
- Experience teaching classes or leading a craft group
Details
- Pay: $17.13 to $20.00 per hour, depending on experience
- Schedule: Full time, 40 hours per week. Saturdays required.
