The Insurance Benefits Coordinator is responsible for the administration, communication, and support of all employee benefit programs for a large manufacturing organization. This role ensures employees understand and effectively utilize their benefits, manages compliance with applicable regulations (including FMLA), and supports both onboarding and open enrollment processes. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with self-insured plans and captive insurance structures.
Key Responsibilities
·Administer and manage all group insurance programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, and voluntary benefits
·Support and track employee medical leaves of absence, including FMLA, short-term disability, and related programs
·Serve as a primary point of contact for employees regarding benefits questions, claims issues, and enrollment support
·Assist employees with benefits registration and enrollment, ensuring accurate and timely submissions
·Coordinate and deliver benefits education during new employee onboarding
·Lead or support open enrollment activities, including employee communications, system updates, and enrollment assistance
·Maintain accurate benefits records and ensure data integrity in HRIS and benefits platforms
·Work closely with brokers, third-party administrators (TPAs), and internal stakeholders
·Support administration of self-insured health plans, including understanding claims flow, reporting, and cost drivers
·Collaborate with captive program partners and demonstrate understanding of captive insurance structures and funding mechanisms
·Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations (FMLA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, etc.)
·Assist with benefits audits, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
·3–5 years of experience in benefits administration or a related HR function
·Experience working with self-insured health plans required
·Working knowledge or experience with captive insurance programs strongly preferred
· Experience administering FMLA and other leave programs
· Strong understanding of group insurance plans and benefits terminology
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex benefits in a clear, employee-friendly manner
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
· Proficiency with HRIS and benefits administration systems
· Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
· Experience in a manufacturing or large workforce environment preferred
Work Environment
